Mission of the Suffolk County Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals

The Suffolk County SPCA seeks to protect and promote the welfare of all animals, alleviate the pain and suffering of any abused, neglected or abandoned animal, as well as to act as a voice for animals that cannot speak or fend for themselves. The Suffolk County SPCA is a not-for-profit IRS 501(C)(3) tax exempt corporation, and is the sole SPCA servicing Suffolk County, NY for over 20 years (not affilliated with the Manhattan based ASPCA). Our Humane Division provides humane education in Suffolk County classrooms, run spay/neutering programs, ferral cat program, rabies vaccination clinics, adoption clinics, and has recently acquired our own mobile veterinarian clinic vehicle (1 of only 5 in the entire country). Our Law Enforcement Division consists of civillian investigators and sworn peace officers, who receive legal and firearms training in the police academy, and who enforce anti-cruelty laws in assistance with the police department and District Attorneys Office. Many anti-cruelty laws enforced involve animal torture, animal fighting, animal sacrifice, etc. Our agency also has wildlife agents who assist in the humane capture and care of wild and exotic animals.

Programs

The Suffolk County SPCA is pleased to announce that the entire Suffolk County legislature, by unanimous vote, has donated to our organization a unique $175,000 Mobile Veterinarian Clinic Vehicle of which there are only 5 such mobile units in the entire country. This vehicle is staffed with a full-time vet, vet tech, Commercial driver, and support staff. It contains a complete state-of-the-art operation room for all type of vet medical emergencies and surgeries, medicine, oxygen, anesthesia, equipment, cages of all sizes for all types of animals, scales, room temperature controls, bathing facilities, awning and bathroom. The vehicle will be used to travel into all communities in Sufolk County and in addition to providing veterinarian medical care to animals, spay/neutering, vaccinations, and adoption drives done in conjunction with various animal shelters at local malls with the help of local radio stations live broadcasting vans, and sponsors.

Additional Comments

In addition to seeking specific funding for our new Mobile Veterinarian Clinic Vehicle, the Suffolk County SPCA is always seeking volunteers in both its Humane Division and Law Enforcement Divisions. We are especially seeking volunteers for our dog and cat adoption drives, individuals to help with computer database programing and data entry, carpentry skills, and fundraising.
